It was pointed out to Mess Danby, Leigh and Orange in reply, that Government had no knowledge of the object for which Mr. Boulton applied for leave, except the one which he mentioned in his application viz. to join a party of friends in China.
Mr. Boulton was then asked by letter whether what Mess Danby, Leigh and Orange stated was a fact, and if so whether he was giving his professional assistance gratuitously, or was receiving remuneration for the same.
To the first question Mr. Boulton replied in the affirmative, and in regard to the latter he remarked that he expected some pecuniary recognition of his services.
